Happy Flag Day!

To celebrate Flag Day this year, Stacie is flying to Austin! OK, so it’s just a coincidence that she happens to be here on Flag Day. We are not actually celebrating flags.

Every year, I attend Stacie, Meredith and Becca’s roommate reunion weekend. I lived in their apartment with Stacie during our final summer of school (what’s up August grads!) when I was taking “Intro to Christian Ethics” and “Prodestant Reformation Survey” and Stacie was taking some sort of math.

What was that about, Stacie? Why were you taking math?

That summer, Stacie taught me about Goldschlager and “That 70’s show” and I taught her the freedom of not wearing pants. Her class was at 8, and my classes were at 1, so we had our evenings together to head to Common Grounds.

Anyway, that one summer has earned me a ticket to their roommate reunion train. Stacie will fly in to the ATX and we will spend the weekend in San Antone with Becca, Meredith and her baby, Mabry!

Some interesting facts about flag day. I got these from my work website:

1. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened that day by resolution of the Second Continental Congress in 1777.

2. In 1916, Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day; in August 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress.

3. Flag Day is not an official federal holiday, though on June 14, 1937, Pennsylvania became the first (and only) U.S. state to celebrate Flag Day as a state holiday.

4. Title 36 Sec. 110 of the US Code is the official statute on Flag Day, however it is at the President's discretion to proclaim officially the observance.

5. The largest Flag Day parade is held annually in Troy, NY.
